Getting thereLocated on the northern coast of the Dakar peninsula, roughly a 45-minute drive from Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS). A car or a local city taxi transfer is preferred for gear transit, with free parking available along the public sandy lot buffers near the BCEAO surf camp zone. The wide, open sandy beach stretch directly in front of the local surf shacks offers the primary, unobstructed launch area.
HazardsThe spot faces the open Atlantic Ocean, delivering a punishing, heavy shorebreak and powerful, structural rip currents that can rapidly exhaust an inexperienced swimmer. True beginners should exercise extreme caution, as the prevailing northerly winds blow cross-onshore, creating chaotic, choppy wave conditions with very limited localized jet-ski or boat rescue infrastructure available.
Best time of dayAfternoon, from December to June, when the regional trade winds are amplified by the thermal suction of the hot West African interior plains. Late afternoon sessions offer the cleanest wind trajectories and avoid the intense, unshaded midday sun along the urban beach strip.
