Getting thereOnly reachable by a short 5-10 minute public or private wooden pirogue boat from the Ngor beach docks in northern Dakar. No cars on the island — gear is carried on foot along narrow concrete alleys to the wave-facing reef shelves on the northern side. The sandy beach inside the sheltered bay is the primary launch.
HazardsSurrounded by real open-ocean swell, a crushing shorebreak, and sharp sea urchins covering the underwater volcanic reef flats. True beginners should avoid this entirely — immediate deep water, real point-break current, and a committed crowd of professional surfers in the main lineup.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when regional trades get thermally accelerated off the dry West African interior. After 2pm gives the breeze time to fill in cleanly past the outer headlands, clearing the nearshore surf line.
