Good to know

Getting thereFly into Malindi (MYD), a 30-minute taxi south, or Mombasa (MBA), a 2.5-hour drive north. Taxis and tuk-tuks are readily available; free parking at public access points along Turtle Bay Road. Safest access is via the beach at local kite schools within the protected marine park.
HazardsThe interior bay is protected and free of sea urchins, but advanced riders heading to the outer reef during Kusi season will meet large, powerful swells. Watch for tidal channels creating deep-water zones next to shallow sandbanks. Strict marine park regulations apply โ€” respect designated wildlife and swimmer zones.
Best time of dayAfternoon when trade winds peak, especially June-September. The bay's geography keeps it rideable even at the lowest tides, but a filling mid-tide gives the smoothest flatwater.
