Getting thereFly into Malindi (MYD) and drive north 30-40 minutes to the Ngomeni peninsula. A high-clearance vehicle is needed for the local dirt access roads. Parking is informal and unregulated along the coastal tracks near the fishing village.
HazardsSharp coral debris, rocks, and old fishing gear sit hidden just beneath the surface. Not for unsupervised beginners โ no rescue boats or emergency infrastructure, and the outer edge has challenging shorebreak. Severe tidal currents run parallel to the reef spit.
Best time of dayAfternoon, once the thermal sea breeze builds over the Indian Ocean for side-onshore trade winds. High tide is important for adequate depth over the debris-strewn reef flat.
