A long open beach south of Narbonne-Plage, less crowded than Gruissan, catching the same Tramontane with a bit more swell off the Golfe du Lion.

Getting thereAude department, about 25 minutes east of Narbonne or 1 hour from Béziers Airport (BZR). A car is preferred for gear; free parking in the dirt lots by the Pissevaches lagoon mouth. The wide beach where the river estuary meets the Mediterranean is the primary entry.
HazardsThe small, shallow lagoon is beginner-friendly but genuinely restricted by strict summer swimmer zones and narrow launch sectors along the boardwalks. Watch for the Tramontane blowing down from the nearby Clape massif — it creates real, unpredictable gust pockets close to the sand.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when the SE Marin aligns with daytime thermal heating for a smooth cross-onshore breeze. This window gives steadier tracking and more manageable chop than the gustier morning cycles.
