Getting thereLocated on the Petite Côte, roughly a 35-minute drive south of Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) via the toll highway. A car or a pre-arranged resort transfer is required, with parking available in the dirt and sand clearings near the local eco-lodges or the river mouth access point. Staging is easiest from the flat sandy shores directly inside the lagoon bend, opposite the Royal Baobab resort complex.
HazardsThe lagoon inlet generates powerful, rapid tidal currents during the changing ebb and flood cycles that can quickly sweep a kiter out to sea or into the opposite banks. True beginners must stay well inside the protected, waist-deep flat-water pools, watch out for sharp mangrove roots at high tide, and remain clear of the local wooden pirogues and tourist boat excursions.
Best time of dayMid-to-high tide on a rising cycle, which fills the shallow mangrove channels with clean water and dampens the worst of the river mouth current. Late afternoon is optimal when the trade winds receive a thermal compression boost along the coast to deliver stable onshore conditions.
