Getting there1 hour northwest of Mérida International Airport (MID) via the Hunucmá highway. A car is required for this quiet fishing village; free parking on the packed sand tracks behind the main beach promenade. The wide white sand beach in front of local kite clubs or the pier gives direct access.
HazardsA vast, forgiving shallow-water zone with a sandy floor makes this genuinely good for beginners. Watch for localized wooden fishing stakes close to the harbor mouth, and stay well clear of the active artisanal fishing boat lanes near the concrete jetty.
Best time of dayAfternoon, February-September, when the local thermal engine drives a highly predictable, stable cross-onshore sea breeze — usually peaking 2-6pm for consistent, warm tracking over emerald water.
