Getting thereFly into La Paz (LAP), about 45 minutes away, or Los Cabos (SJD), a 2.5-hour drive north on Highway 1. A car helps for exploring the coast, though beachfront rentals allow walking access. Free parking along beach access tracks or at camps like Playa Central, the most popular central launch.
HazardsSteep shorebreak and a narrow sandy beach tightly lined with cactus, mesquite, and shoreline buildings. Peak winter months bring extreme kiter density, and a real shore current can sweep a dropped kite downwind toward the rocky point at El Sargento. Local right-of-way rules require launching kiters to yield to incoming riders.
Best time of day12:30-5pm, November-April, when north trades combine with a strong thermal build off the desert heat against the Sea of Cortez. Launching after midday means the wind has gone fully side-shore and stabilized.
