Good to know

Getting thereAbout 2 hours north of Puerto Vallarta Airport (PVR), or 45 minutes from Tepic via the San Blas autopista. A car is required; free parking on the wide sandy dirt flats behind the local beachfront ramadas at Playa El Borrego. The open beach gives a massive, unobstructed launch zone.
HazardsAn open Pacific setting with a real shorebreak and undercurrent that strengthens during spring tides. San Blas is genuinely notorious for intense swarms of biting sandflies (jejenes) at sunset — bring repellent. This is a wild coastal zone with no structured rescue boat service on site.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when equatorial trades get accelerated by thermal suction from the dry interior plains. Mid-afternoon is most reliable for clean cross-onshore tracking across long, rolling wave lines.
