Getting thereFly into Cairo (CAI) and drive 2.5-3 hours southeast across the Ahmed Hamdi Tunnel under the Suez Canal into the Sinai Peninsula. A car or pre-arranged hotel shuttle is essential; free secure parking inside gated resorts like Soul Kitesurfing or Moon Beach, with direct beach access from these resort lawns.
HazardsAn extreme tidal range can pull the waterline back hundreds of meters, exposing sharp rock shelves and dry sandbanks at low tide. Wear protective footwear against sea urchins and buried stones in the shallow lagoons. Ras Sudr sits directly on the Gulf of Suez โ the natural approach channel for ships heading to and from the Suez Canal โ so commercial container ship traffic is genuinely visible on the horizon and worth being aware of, not a stray detail.
Best time of dayEarly morning through mid-afternoon, when strong, cool northerly wind funnels cleanly down the Gulf of Suez. A rising mid-tide is important for lagoon riders to clear the flat sandbars without grounding out.
