A car is needed to haul gear, with parking accessible in paid and free hotel lots or public street slots along the resort promenade. The open sandy beaches situated between the private hotel breakwater walls provide the primary entry points.
HazardsThe nearshore zone is heavily interrupted by artificial rock groynes, concrete seawalls, and private boat docks designed to combat coastal erosion. True beginners must possess competent upwind steering skills, as the light summer thermal breezes can turn unpredictable near the shore, risking a downwind drift directly into the sharp rock walls or crowded resort swimming sections.
Best time of dayAfternoon, from November to June, when the prevailing northwesterly trade winds align with local daytime thermal gradients to blow smoothly cross-onshore. Mid-week sessions are highly preferred over weekends to avoid the heavy influx of local jet skis and beachgoers from Dakar.
