Getting thereWestern Cornwall, about 45 minutes from Newquay Airport (NQY) via the A30. A car is essential for the coastal dunes; large paid municipal lots behind the beach at Gwithian (Godrevy) or Marazion. Gwithian handles the northerly wave tracks; Marazion gives direct entry facing St Michael's Mount.
HazardsGwithian faces the open Atlantic with a real, heavy shorebreak and genuine rip current along the rocky headlands. Avoid Gwithian during heavy winter swells and head to Marazion instead โ wide sandy flats offer safer tracking, but a real tidal range exposes sharp rock shelves at low tide there too.
Best time of dayMid-tide on a rising cycle, covering the lowest exposed rock shelves while leaving plenty of beach for safe launching away from the concrete seawalls. Afternoon sessions combine prevailing wind with local thermal gradients for steady onshore conditions.
