Getting thereOnly reachable by a 1-hour public passenger ferry or private boat charter from Concarneau or Fouesnant — no roads or cars on the archipelago. From the Saint-Nicolas pier, a short sandy-path walk gets you to the inner lagoons. White sandbars connecting the tiny keys are the main entry.
HazardsA genuine, extreme tidal range exposes sharp coral heads, rock shelves, and sandbanks at dead low tide. Strong upwind riding skill matters — wind can blow off-the-beach or offshore here, with no organized rescue boats or cell service at all.
Best time of dayTwo hours either side of high tide, filling the sand lagoons with crystal-clear, waist-deep flat water. Afternoon sessions get the trade winds thermally compressed across the isolated island landmass.
