Good to know

Getting thereFly into Arrachart Airport (DIE) in Diego Suarez, then 4x4 to Ramena village (~45 min). From Ramena beach, a motorized dhow boat crossing (~1 hour) reaches the isolated lagoon. No roads or car parking at the spot itself โ€” access is entirely maritime via local kite camp transfers.
HazardsLaunch and beach zones have sharp rocky areas that can slice feet or shred downed kites. Stay downwind under direct instructor supervision if inexperienced โ€” 30+ knot winds and strong tidal currents can pull struggling riders toward the open-ocean passes. A paid rescue boat service is mandatory via local camps.
Best time of dayAll day, May-October, when the Varatraza wind blows continuously 25-40kt. Mornings are slightly smoother; afternoons bring maximum thermal punch and more chop.
