Getting thereNosy Komba island near Nosy Be, requiring a domestic flight to Fascene Airport (NOS), a taxi to Hell-Ville port, and a 20-minute local boat transit. No cars on the island — all travel is on foot to the boat docks. Staging is directly from the narrow sandy beaches in front of local eco-lodges.
HazardsThe launch is exceptionally narrow, shadowed by large tropical trees, bordered by private boat docks and sharp volcanic rocks near shore. Avoid this spot given genuinely gusty wind close to shore, immediate deep water, and no public rescue boat infrastructure.
Best time of dayAfternoon, May-October, when the regional trade wind blows cleanly from the ESE, accelerated by the thermal draw of the main Madagascar landmass. Steady side-onshore angles across the deep blue water channels.
