Good to know

Getting thereOnly reachable by a 30-45 minute private boat transfer from the harbor docks in Diego Suarez โ€” no roads or land routes to the Emerald Sea lagoon camps. Staging is directly from the sandy flats lining the remote eco-resorts. All gear travels by boat.
HazardsA genuinely extreme tidal range exposes sharp coral reef flats and sandbanks at dead low tide. Strong upwind riding skill matters โ€” wind blows strongly side-offshore or offshore over the main speed spit, with no organized public safety rescue boats at all.
Best time of dayTwo hours around high tide, filling the sand lagoon with crystal-clear, waist-deep flat water. Afternoon sessions get the trades thermally compressed across the isolated island landmass, regularly screaming past 30kt.
