Getting thereRequires a ferry from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel, then a 20-minute drive north via the coastal hotel zone road. A car or rental scooter is needed; free dirt parking at the end of the paved road near the military outpost. The secluded bays of Country Club or Isla de la Pasión are the best entry points.
HazardsVery shallow turquoise water over a sharp coral reef and fossilized rock ledge can slice feet or break fins at low tide. Wear protective booties, and follow local guide recommendations closely to avoid getting dragged into the powerful, deep Cozumel channel current.
Best time of dayMorning through early afternoon, when Caribbean trades or winter Nortes blow cleanly across the shallow flats — most stable before midday tropical heating brings light turbulence.
