The Camargue's wild southern tip, reachable only by a long track through salt flats and flamingo marshes β remote, Mistral-powered, and far from any beach resort.

Getting thereRemote Camargue delta β a genuine 1-hour drive from Arles or 1.5 hours from Marseille Airport (MRS), ending in a bumpy 10km unpaved track with a vehicle-width barrier. A high-clearance car is necessary; free parking and camping directly on the sand flats at Beauduc. Carteau, via Port-Saint-Louis, has easier road access near the dike.
HazardsBeauduc's shallow sandy arena is genuinely beginner-friendly, but its isolation means zero public amenities, lifeguards, or phone signal. Carteau has real underwater weed beds and sharp shallow mudflats that can catch hydrofoil masts or fins at low tide.
Best time of dayAfternoon, spring through autumn, when the thermal sea breeze or the Mistral blows smoothly across the open gulf. Arrive early for beach space before the narrow sand lanes fill with local campers.
