Getting thereWestern coast of Qatar, about 1h15 west of Doha via the Dukhan Highway. A high-clearance car or 4x4 is completely mandatory for the unpaved desert tracks and soft sand flats; free off-road parking right next to the water. The wide shoreline gives direct entry.
HazardsA vast, protected flat-water bay, but exceptionally shallow — low tide completely exposes a sharp rocky floor and muddy flats. Check tide tables closely for safe fin depth, wear booties against sharp shells, and know there are no rescue boat services here.
Best time of dayHigh tide window — absolutely critical for enough depth over the shallow limestone shelves. Afternoon sessions get NW winds thermally accelerated across the baking desert plains.
