Getting thereAt the literal 'corner' of Brazil where the coast turns from north to west, about 1h15 north of Natal International Airport (NAT) via the BR-101. A car is essential; free parking directly on sandy tracks or outside beachfront pousadas. The wide sandy point near the Calcanhar lighthouse is the main access.
HazardsA real transition point in wind and current, with a heavy Atlantic shorebreak and genuine lateral rip. Deep water starts quickly, sharp coral reef ledges flank the downwind side, and there's no organized public rescue here at all.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when interior heat creates a strong thermal suction pulling trades cleanly across the point. Late afternoon gives stable side-onshore conditions and manageable chop before evening temperatures drop.
