Good to know

Getting there70km northwest of Fortaleza Airport (FOR), about 1h15 by car. A buggy or 4x4 is highly recommended to move between the open ocean beach and the famous flat-water lagoon. Free parking directly on the sand flats behind the lagoon or near the beachfront pousadas.
HazardsThe ocean has a real shorebreak and strong downwind current, while the inner freshwater lagoon gets genuinely congested with freestyle pros throwing high-speed tricks. Flawless kite control matters to avoid line tangles in the narrow lagoon basin — wear booties for sharp hidden shells near the sand edges.
Best time of dayAfternoon, August-December, when SE trades blow with real consistency, thermally accelerated across the warm dunes. Early morning avoids the crowd that arrives via downwind tours from Cumbuco.
