Getting thereAbout 45 minutes south of Porto Airport (OPO) via the A29 or A1. A car is required to reach the Murtosa sector (Monte Branco beach), with free public parking on gravel/grass near the boat launch. Main access is the grassy rigging lawn next to the local sailing and kite schools.
HazardsThe lagoon is shallow but has soft, muddy sections, hidden wooden fishing stakes, and active local eel fishing nets. Watch the tide closely โ the sandbanks dry out completely at low tide, leaving no water and a genuinely difficult walk back across deep mud with your gear.
Best time of dayAfternoon, June-September, when the local thermal sea breeze accelerates the regional Nortada to its daily peak. Arrive around 1pm to launch just as the thermal stabilizes across the flats.
