Good to know

Getting therePraia do Cabedelo sits at the mouth of the Lima river in Viana do Castelo, about 1 hour north of Porto Airport (OPO). A car is useful for gear, though the town itself is walkable. Free and paid parking is available near the beach; the main spot is directly below the local kite center at the northern end of the beach.
HazardsThe northern end is sheltered by a large sea wall spanning the river mouth, creating genuinely safe, waist-deep water ideal for beginners. About 500m south at Rodanho, conditions shift to more onshore wind and real swell over a sandy bottom that requires moving around to find the working sandbank โ€” know which section you're in before committing.
Best time of dayYear-round, but most wind-reliable from early April to late October. Summer afternoons bring the 'Nortada' โ€” a northerly trade wind boosted by thermal and bay effects, averaging 15-25kt and peaking around 4pm, sometimes elevated 50% above forecast by the thermal effect.
