Getting there35km west of Lisbon Airport (LIS) along the scenic N6 past Cascais, about 35 minutes by car. A vehicle is required for gear; paid and free parking adjacent to the coastal fort or beachfront restaurants. The beach between the high rocky bluffs gives direct access.
HazardsFaces the open Atlantic with a real, heavy shorebreak, big rolling wave sets, and genuine lateral rip current tracking along the cliffs. True beginners should avoid this beach entirely — the NW Nortada blows strongly cross-offshore near the sand, deep water starts instantly, and no rescue boats exist here.
Best time of dayAfternoon, June-September, when the Portuguese 'Nortada' trade wind gets heavily compressed and thermally accelerated through the Sintra mountain gap. Regularly screams past 25-30kt post-midday for intense bump-and-jump or wave-riding.
