Getting thereWestern Algarve, about 50 minutes from Faro Airport (FAO) via the A22. A car is required; a large free lot sits at the Alvor beach boardwalk, with a 10-minute walk across the sand flats to the lagoon launch. The Meia Praia (Lagos) side offers dirt-track access too.
HazardsThe narrow inlet creates genuinely extreme, rushing tidal current that can sweep a rider or gear into the open Atlantic or onto sharp oyster beds. Avoid riding during peak ebb tides, and stay well clear of the deep, high-traffic navigation channels used by local fishing boats.
Best time of dayTwo hours around high tide, for safe depth over the sandbanks and to keep fins clear of the mud. Afternoon sessions are best June-September, when the hot landmass triggers a genuinely powerful cross-shore 'Nortada' thermal.
