Getting thereNortheast coast of Zanzibar, about 1h15 from the airport. A private taxi or rental car is required; free parking within local beachfront lodges or hotels. Access is through open resort gates or public sand tracks.
HazardsA sharp barrier reef sits roughly 1km offshore, creating a flat lagoon that empties completely at low tide, exposing sea urchins, sharp coral, and local seaweed farming stakes. Time sessions precisely with high tide — low tide leaves no depth and a genuinely dangerous rocky floor.
Best time of dayThree hours either side of high tide — the only real window for flat-water riding inside the lagoon. Afternoon benefits from a thermal compression boost on the prevailing trades.
