Good to know

Getting thereNorthern tip of Zanzibar, about 1.5 hours from Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) by private taxi or rental car. Free parking at local beach resorts or public dirt tracks to the coast. The beach near the northern lighthouse or local kite schools is the main entry.
HazardsA genuine, extreme tidal range means low tide reveals shallow, sharp coral heads, sea urchins, and local wooden dhow mooring lines that can tangle gear or slice feet. Wear thick booties and watch for real cross-shore tidal current through the deeper channels.
Best time of dayAfternoon during the Kaskazi (December-March) or Kusi (June-September) monsoons, when wind stabilizes post-midday from thermal enhancement. Mid-to-high tide is strongly preferred for clean depth over the coral flats.
