Good to know

Getting thereNortheast coast of Zanzibar, about 1h15 from the airport. A private taxi or rental car is required; free parking within local beachfront lodges or hotels. Access to the beach is through open resort gates or public sand tracks.
HazardsA sharp barrier reef sits about 1km offshore, creating a flat lagoon that empties completely at low tide, exposing sea urchins, sharp coral, and local seaweed farming stakes. Time sessions precisely with high tide โ€” low tide leaves zero depth and a genuinely dangerous rocky floor.
Best time of dayThree hours either side of high tide โ€” the only safe window for flat-water riding inside the lagoon. Afternoon sessions get a thermal compression boost on the trades along the eastern coastline.
