Getting thereDrive to Portalban and follow signs toward the harbor in the village. Park in the large lakeside lots and walk a short distance to the spot.
HazardsGenuinely strict about its rules — in summer the main front beach can only be used when it's clear of swimmers, otherwise you're pushed to the smaller back beach where you'll likely have to start in the water. Specific zones govern what's allowed where. Space at the launch is tight with trees and small camping cabins close by — know how to release quickly. Not a spot for beginners.
Best time of dayThe go-to spot on this lake for W-NW wind — for SW, Saint-Blaise across the lake is the better call since Portalban runs offshore in that direction. West wind here is almost always gusty crossing the Jura, so expect roughly 8-10kt forecast for a session; Bise (NE) needs about 10kt regionally to deliver ~15kt on-site.
