A powerful wave break on Sal's south coast, known as much for surfing and wave-riding as for freestyle β a step up from the flatter water at Santa Maria.

Getting thereSouthwestern tip of Sal island, about 15 minutes from AmΓlcar Cabral International Airport (SID). A 4x4 or local taxi is required for the unpaved desert tracks to the point; free dirt parking on the bluffs overlooking the wave. The beach below the rocky headland is the main access.
HazardsA world-class, high-intensity wave spot with a massive, hollow point break, real shorebreak, and sharp volcanic rock shelves flanking the launch zone. True beginners should avoid this entirely β wind blows side-offshore, deep water starts instantly, and a gear malfunction washes you into jagged rocks with no rescue support.
Best time of dayAfternoon, January-April, when the NE trades hit maximum velocity and line up with the offshore reefs for clean wave faces. Check wind alerts closely β this is genuinely for expert wave riders only.
