Good to know

Getting thereWest coast of Boa Vista island near Sal Rei, about 10 minutes north of Aristides Pereira International Airport (BVC). A 4x4 or local taxi is necessary; free parking on the wide sandy dirt flats behind local beachfront restaurants. Rabil beach is the primary launch zone.
HazardsAn open sea setting with a moderate shorebreak at high tide and genuine undercurrent. Watch for a few localized stone reefs flanking the outer bay edges, and stay clear of traditional fishing boats and catamaran charters anchored close to shore.
Best time of dayAfternoon, November-May, when prevailing NE trades get thermally accelerated along the dry island coast. Stabilizes after 1pm for a consistent cross-onshore breeze that clears the nearshore surf line.
