Good to know

Getting thereAbout 1.5 hours south of Natal International Airport (NAT) via the BR-101. A car is needed; public and paid parking along the village cliff streets or at the Tibau do Sul lagoon edge. Staging splits between the flat-water Lagoa do Guaraíras or the wave-facing ocean at Praia do Madeiro.
HazardsThe ocean spots have high vertical cliffs downwind causing real wind shadows close to shore, plus sharp underwater rocks. True beginners should stick strictly to the protected Tibau do Sul lagoon mouth — watch for real tidal current and local ferry boat traffic there too.
Best time of dayAfternoon, September-March, when regional trades get reinforced by local thermal building along the cliffs. Mid-to-high tide is essential for the lagoon spots to guarantee depth over the shallow sand shelves.
