The exposed capital-city coastline, with real Atlantic shorebreak rather than a sheltered lagoon — Mauritania's most accessible spot logistically, its most demanding one in the water.

Getting thereAlong the capital's main coastline, about 30 minutes west of Nouakchott-Oumtounsy International Airport (NKC). A car reaches the paved beachfront road, but a 4x4 helps for gear onto the soft sand; free parking abundant near the fisherman's market. The open beach away from the active boat ramps is the main entry.
HazardsFaces the open Atlantic with a real, heavy shorebreak and genuine lateral undercurrent that strengthens during spring tides. Watch for floating maritime debris and traditional wooden pirogues — no dedicated public marine safety or kite rescue boat services.
Best time of dayAfternoon, November-June, when NW trades get thermally accelerated by Mauritanian interior heat. After 2pm gives steady side-onshore conditions that clear the nearshore surf line.
