Getting thereSouthern tip of the Nouadhibou peninsula, about 25 minutes from Nouadhibou International Airport (NDB). A high-clearance 4x4 is absolutely mandatory for the unmarked desert cliff tracks; free off-road parking scattered across the dirt bluffs. Staging is from the wild, unmanaged sand beneath the marine mammal reserve cliffs.
HazardsFaces the open Atlantic with deep water starting instantly, a real shorebreak, and genuine offshore current. True beginners should avoid this entirely — extreme trade wind density, hidden rock shelves nearby, and no safety rescue craft, cell service, or emergency services at all.
Best time of dayAfternoon, March-September, when the Saharan thermal draw accelerates the permanent trades to peak velocity. After 1pm gives the wind time to fill in fully, blowing clean past the jagged headlands.
