Getting thereInside the remote Banc d'Arguin National Park, requiring a genuine 4-5 hour 4x4 expedition north of Nouakchott via unpaved desert tracks. A high-clearance 4x4 with satellite navigation, extra fuel, and sand recovery gear is completely mandatory; free parking limited to dirt camping zones near local Imraguen fishing villages. Staging is directly from the wild tidal sandbanks.
HazardsA genuinely extreme tidal range transforms the shallow channels into massive, dry mudflats that can strand riders. High-risk given the intense isolation, complex tidal racing current, and complete absence of medical facilities, local kite schools, or rescue boats.
Best time of dayMid-to-high tide on a rising cycle, for enough depth to cross the shallow sand flats safely. Afternoon sessions get a thermal compression boost on the trades along the desert coastline.
