Good to know

Getting thereAbout 10 minutes downwind of Icaraí de Amontada, requiring a 4x4 for unpaved beach tracks and soft dunes — no paved roads reach the spot directly. Free off-road parking right next to the river mouth sandbars. The flat sandy spit near the Rio Aracatiaçu outlet is the primary entry.
HazardsGenuine river current that changes rapidly with the ocean tide, alongside hidden mangrove roots on the upwind banks. Watch for shallow water over the sandbanks at low tide, and avoid getting pulled into the deep, turbulent river mouth channel — no organized rescue service here.
Best time of dayHigh tide on a rising cycle, filling the flat mangrove river arms with clean, waist-deep water and covering the shallowest sand shelves. Afternoon sessions get the equatorial trades thermally accelerated across the hot coastal dunes.
