Good to know

Getting therePiauí state, about 30 minutes from Parnaíba Delta Airport (PHB) or 15 minutes west of Barra Grande. A 4x4 is highly recommended for the soft sand access tracks; free parking directly on the packed sand behind the river mouth. The wide tidal lagoon formed by the river estuary is the primary entry.
HazardsA genuinely extreme tidal range creates real, rapid current when the river basin drains into the ocean. Check tide tables closely — low tide completely empties the lagoon into dry mudflats, and an outgoing tide can quickly sweep a kiter into the open sea channel.
Best time of dayTwo hours either side of high tide — the only safe window for flat-water riding inside the river lagoon. Afternoon gets the equatorial trades thermally compressed for a clean cross-shore blow.
