Good to know

Getting therePiauí state, about 15 minutes from Parnaíba Delta Airport (PHB) or 4 hours from Teresina. A car is needed to reach Playa de Maramar; free parking on the dirt roads or sand flats behind the beach bars (barracas). The wide, open beach gives a massive, unobstructed rigging and launch area.
HazardsA large tidal range exposes shallow sandbars and creates real coastal current. Watch for hidden reef patches a few hundred meters offshore at low tide, and stay alert to the powerful onshore shorebreak during high spring tides.
Best time of dayAfternoon, August-December, when equatorial trade winds get heavily accelerated by thermal suction from the dry interior. Mid-tide gives the best balance of flat lagoons behind the sandbars and wide launch beach.
