Good to know

Getting thereFly into Cape Town (CPT) and drive about 1.5 hours north on the R27 West Coast road. A car is essential; free parking at Main Beach or Cape Sport Center. Main Beach, well inside the protected lagoon, is the best spot for beginners and flatwater riding.
HazardsWater is consistently cold (12-15Β°C) from the Benguela current β€” a thick 4/3mm wetsuit is genuinely necessary. Avoid the 'Shark Bay' end at extreme low tide, when sand flats shrink the riding zone and expose channels with real current. This is a protected national park β€” stay clear of wildlife sanctuaries and commercial vessel channels.
Best time of day12-6pm, November-March, when interior heating pulls in cold Atlantic air for a strong, reliable SE wind. An incoming mid-tide gives the smoothest flatwater across the lagoon.
