Getting thereAbout 1h15 north of Milan Malpensa (MXP) or Linate (LIN) airports via the SS36. A car is preferred for gear; paid public lots near the main northerly lawns in Colico or Gera Lario. Water access usually needs an organized boat lift/shuttle from local schools, since shore launch space is heavily limited by stone walls and paths.
HazardsImmediate, ultra-deep alpine water with no shallow standing zones at all. True beginners should avoid self-launching from shore entirely — heavy wind shadows flank the mountain banks, and a gear malfunction means an immediate downwind drift with no rescue options outside pre-arranged school boat tracks.
