Getting thereDeep within the Paracas National Reserve, requiring a genuine 1-hour 4x4 drive south of Paracas town via unpaved desert salt flats. A high-clearance 4x4 is completely mandatory for the remote tracks; free off-road parking on the packed sand behind the fishing shacks. The wide flat banks inside the natural bay give direct entry.
HazardsHighly variable water depth with hidden sandbanks, sharp desert shells, and active local artisanal fishing boat traffic close to shore. No localized rescue infrastructure or cell signal here β expect real thermal wind bursts that can rapidly exceed 35kt.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when Peruvian desert heat triggers a strong thermal suction pulling the cold Humboldt current breeze into the bay. Builds consistently post-midday for a reliable flat-water training window across the shallow emerald water.
