Getting thereA domestic drive to the port of Sfax, then a 1-hour public car ferry to the Kerkennah Islands. A car is completely necessary for the unpaved coastal tracks to the main beaches; free dirt parking right behind the sand. The shallow sand flats near Playa Sidi Fredj give the primary entry.
HazardsAn extensive, knee-to-waist-deep standing area stretches hundreds of meters — great for beginners, but a real hazard for hydrofoil masts. Watch for localized wooden fishing stakes, shallow sandbanks at dead low tide, and the complete lack of dedicated public safety rescue boats.
Best time of dayMorning through afternoon, May-September, when the regional northerly trades blow with real consistency. Relies on seasonal pressure gradients for a reliable all-day window, excellent for both freestyle and twin-tip training.
