Getting thereOnly reachable by a 30-40 minute ferry or private water taxi from Olhão or Faro — no roads or cars on the island. From the Farol pier, a 10-minute walk on concrete footpaths across the sand gets you to the beach. The ocean side near the lighthouse is the primary, wide sandy staging ground.
HazardsBordered by the main shipping channel of the Faro-Olhão inlet — real tidal current and heavy commercial boat traffic to avoid there. Stay clear of the channel mouth entirely; ride the open ocean side instead, watching for deep-water drop-offs and shorebreak at high tide.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when the summer Levante (easterly) gets amplified by thermal building along the hot Algarve coast. Mid-to-high tide helps on the inside lagoon sections for adequate depth over the shallow shelves.
