Getting thereFly into Fortaleza (FOR) and drive northwest via CE-085 for roughly 2.5-3 hours to Itarema and Guajiru beach. A car is recommended; parking is available right on the sand or at local pousadas facing the lagoon, no fees.
HazardsSharp shells embedded in the sand and shallow water at low tide are the main hazards — real risk of hard impacts against the sandy/shell bottom. Avoid tight crosswinds or slight onshore breezes near the surrounding mangroves without supervision if you're inexperienced.
Best time of dayMid to high tide — low tide drains the lagoon and exposes the shallow bottom. Wind builds reliability from midday through afternoon, driven by trade winds between July and January.
