Getting thereGorizia province, about 30 minutes from Trieste Airport (TRS) or 1h15 from Venice via the A4. A car is necessary for gear; a large paid municipal lot at the Pineta or Europa beach entrances. The sandy flats near Grado Pineta give the best, most direct entry.
HazardsA genuinely extreme tidal flat range — low tide turns the riding zone into vast, shallow sandbanks that can catch long fins or hydrofoil masts. Check tide tables closely to avoid getting stranded in ankle-deep water, and watch for hidden debris near the old breakwaters.
Best time of dayMorning, specifically during strong NE Bora weather, which blows side-shore here. Cleanest early in the day before heating destabilizes it — track mid-to-high tide for clean depth over the shallow flats.
