Getting thereCalabria, just 8 minutes from Lamezia Terme International Airport (SUF) via the SS18 coastal road. A car helps for gear, though taxis are plentiful; ample free and paid parking along the beach promenade. The beach near Hang Loose Beach or Cool Bay gives the primary, organized launch.
HazardsA very wide, long sandy beach with a safe bottom, genuinely forgiving for beginners. Slopes off quickly into deep water close to shore though, generating a moderate shorebreak and short, punchy chop on building thermal days.
Best time of dayAfternoon, May-September, when a strong thermal reliably drives a steady cross-onshore breeze peaking 1-5pm. Regularly builds to 15-22kt like clockwork — predictable tracking well past the calm mornings.
