Good to know

Getting thereSanta Catarina Island, about 30 minutes from Florianópolis International Airport (FLN). A car is completely necessary for the island's mountain passes; paid dirt and asphalt parking parallel to the dunes at Praia Mole. The wide beach below the surf pavilion paths is the primary entry.
HazardsPraia Mole is a world-famous, high-intensity surf spot with a real, heavy shorebreak, genuine impact-zone risk, and a rip current that can drain energy fast. True beginners should avoid launching here entirely — deep water starts instantly and a kite malfunction can wash you into a genuinely dangerous surf lineup with no public rescue boats.
Best time of dayAfternoon, September-March, when strong S or NE frontal systems get thermally accelerated along the rugged southern coast. Late afternoon gives the cleanest wind and most organized wave faces for advanced wave-riding.
