Getting there130km northwest of Fortaleza Airport (FOR), about 2 hours by car via the CE-085. A car is needed for this quiet village; free parking directly on the sand or along unpaved streets behind the pousadas. The wide beaches right in front of the town center reefs are the easiest staging.
HazardsA continuous fringing reef runs parallel to the beach, creating a flat pool but a real impact hazard for fins at low tide. Watch for traditional wooden fishing boats (jangadas) anchored in the shallows, and only ride mid-to-high tide to safely clear the shallow coral rock.
Best time of dayThree hours either side of high tide, for enough depth over the inner reef flats. Late afternoon gets a thermal compression boost on the trades for stable cross-onshore tracking.
