Getting thereEastern Cape, about 1.5 hours east of Gqeberha via the N2 and R342. A car is completely necessary for this remote coastal village; free parking behind the sand dunes at the main beach access point. The wide beach near the river mouth is the primary, unobstructed launch.
HazardsA real, powerful Atlantic shorebreak and genuine lateral current running along sharp rocky reef shelves hidden just below the surface. Competent upwind steering matters to avoid getting dragged into the rocky point hazards, especially during heavy E or SW wind events.
Best time of dayAfternoon, October-March, when regional wind combines with daily thermal gradients for a smooth cross-shore blow. Usually on by 1pm for a steady breeze that clears the nearshore surf line.
