Getting thereFly into Jericoacoara (JJD), about 1 hour away, or Fortaleza (FOR), a 4-5 hour drive via CE-085. A 4x4 is recommended for the sandy tracks to launch points like Ilha do Amor or Maceió beach. Parking is informal and free along the beach tracks; reaching Ilha do Amor needs a short local boat crossing from the Camocim pier.
HazardsMaceió beach has gusty, side-offshore to pure offshore wind that can blow kiters out to sea — beginners should stick to the side-onshore conditions at Ilha do Amor instead. Wind can spike to 40kt during peak summer, creating overpowered conditions. Tangled lines are a frequent risk during local kite festivals due to high rider density.
Best time of dayLate morning through afternoon, July-January, when NE trade winds get a thermal boost. High tide preferred at Ilha do Amor for clean flatwater over the interior sandbars.
